Artist biography: Monica Mull of Milwaukee WI 1977 - written by Monica Mull
I am a Milwaukee, Wisconsin artist. My home/studio/gallery is located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. My very first art exhibition was in 1996, my art (a pastel on sandpaper, picturing a trumpet player) was featured in Milwaukee Art Museum annual student scholastic show. That fueled my passion for displaying and selling my art! I began university at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and completed my studies at UW-Milwaukee. I liked UW better because it was a more well-rounded education. I graduated in 2001. My last semester I was able to arrange an internship at Landmarks gallery through the art history department head Ken Bendiner. I enjoyed it so much I decided to work there after graduation, and ended up staying for 17 years! By age 26, I was exhibiting & selling my work at Landmarks, working in oil, acrylic and mixed media. As a framer, I learned how to professionally frame my art. As a conservator, I learned how to professionally prepare my substrate & paint using materials that will stand the test of time: 2 great skills to learn! I have traveled widely, to New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Barcelona and other locales, visiting art museums in every city, providing art & conservation educational experiences, and a change of pace. My paintings may be found in many private collections as well as permanently on display at South Milwaukee WI high school. It is my mission to help others’ artworks age gracefully and produce my own art that ages well. I have served 24 years as an art conservator in private practice for painting preservation. I work with art collectors, antique dealers, historical societies, churches, artists and frameshops. I am passionate about sharing art knowledge; I have taught art conservation and sustainable eco-friendly studio practice to 26 interns & students as of 2024. After 17 years of art gallery experience, at the age of 40, I designed my studio-gallery Art CPR LLC. My biggest achievement was creating my own practice, Art CPR LLC 2017. I am a lifelong learner, supplementing my education with art classes/ research.
